Researching the history of the Transcontinental Railroad was the first step in familiarizing myself with the beggining years of Union Pacific and gaining a sense of the demographics, especially in regards to their investors. Incorporating the theme of tradition and pride in connecting America was a vital concept to convey in this design of Union Pacific’s annual investors’ report. The challange was to blend a strong sense of the past, with a vibrant feel for today and the future. How Union Pacific is dealing with modern day concerns such as pollution and fuel efficiency had to be equally represented. Photography, new and old, was used, along with a color palatte of muted, up to date colors to create an atmosphere of progressive, yet traditional for this company. The financial reports, graphs and charts were created as a necessary part of this report for their investors. In keeping with the concept of on–going progress, this information is shown in a flowing, “track–like” presentation.
